High Point University invites applications for the position of Professor and Founding Chair of the Department of Computer Science, beginning Fall 2016.  We seek a dynamic and visionary individual to enrich our current program and incorporate emerging areas of computer science, computer engineering, and interdisciplinary fields of study.  This new leader will oversee the transition of a well-established Computer Science program into a new department with an innovative and cutting-edge curriculum.

High Point University has an enrollment of approximately 4500 students and is located in the scenic Piedmont region of North Carolina. The existing Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is housed in the School of Arts and Science. We currently offer BS and BA degree programs in Computer Science as well as a minor. Over the last few years interest in both the major and minor has increased. We have two full-time Computer Science faculty, approximately 70 majors, and expect to graduate 16 students this year. Additionally, two math faculty help cover introductory level courses.

Our students recently founded an ACM chapter and for the last 20 years we have participated annually in ACM conferences and programming competitions. Over the last five years graduates have secured employment at companies such as Gilbarco Inc., Apple, MathWorks, and NetApp. Several are pursuing or have completed graduate study at Clemson University, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, and Boston University at the masters and PhD levels.

A PhD in Computer Science or Computer Engineering is required. Candidates with the current rank of Professor are preferred although outstanding candidates at other ranks will be considered.

The successful candidate should have a sustained record of scholarly achievement, an entrepreneurial spirit and an interest in working with undergraduate students.  While the area of specialization is open, preference will be given to individuals who embrace current technological trends.

Applications will be accepted immediately and the position will remain open until filled.  Start date for the position is August 15, 2016.

Interested candidates should send curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy, graduate school transcripts (photocopies are acceptable), and 3 letters of reference to:
